Frequently asked questions

How do I add sales tax to a price?

Multiply the price by (1 + tax rate). A $50 item with 8.25% sales tax costs $50 × 1.0825 = $54.13.

How do I find the tax included in a total?

Divide the total by (1 + tax rate) to get the price before tax, then subtract. With 16% VAT, $116 ÷ 1.16 = $100 before tax and $16 in tax.

What is my sales tax rate?

In the United States, rates are set by states, counties and cities, and some states have no statewide sales tax. In other countries, VAT rates are set nationally. Check your state or tax authority.
